Weller Development Announces Name Change and Expansion

Weller Development Partners will relocate its headquarters to Bethesda, MD as it continues to focus on developing community-driven, mixed-use projects worldwide.

Bethesda, Md. (June 23, 2022) – Weller Development Partners, formerly known as Weller Development Company, today announced they will rename the organization and adopt a new brand identity. This new identity aligns with Weller Development Partners’ collaborative, team-driven approach to forming powerful partnerships as it expands locally, nationally, and internationally. The rebrand represents the importance of agility in the commercial real estate industry, as the landscape continues to shift.

“I could not be more proud of our team’s ability to adapt and be nimble, despite the economic challenges the world has faced as a result of the pandemic,” said Marc Weller, Founding Partner and President at Weller Development Partners. “Changing the company name to Weller Development Partners is symbolic of our profound growth and solidifies our commitment to nurture a culture of connection, innovation, creativity, and consistency across all sectors of our work.”

Weller Development Partners was the lead developer in Port Covington, a transformative 235-acre waterfront development in Baltimore, MD.  Following several years of acquisitions, entitlements, securing financing, master planning, and infrastructure development, the company launched vertical construction for Phase 1B of Port Covington in March of 2021. The Weller team will continue to manage the construction of Phase 1B through its completion, which encompasses 1.1 million square feet of mixed-use development and ten acres of parks and public space.

Under Weller’s leadership, the Port Covington Development Team committed more than $110 million in contracts to Minority Business Enterprise and Women Business Enterprise (MBE/WBE) firms, exceeding their initial goals. In September of 2016, the Port Covington Development Team entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the City of Baltimore that included over $130 million in commitments to Baltimore. Weller Development Partners is redefining real estate development with its focus on community, inclusion, affordable housing, and local workforce development.

Weller continued, “What I am most proud of is how we have exceeded expectations on every single one of our community commitments.  This is a big deal in development because there is a lot of mistrust in the community, especially in underserved communities.  We came to Baltimore, and we did exactly what we said we were going to do.  We kept our word to the community every step of the way, and we did all this while building a world-class project under budget and ahead of schedule – all during a global pandemic. This is a prelude to what we are going to be doing next around the region and the country for years to come.”

In addition to becoming Weller Development Partners, the company has unveiled a refreshed website that offers an in-depth look at its ethos and development approach. The team is excited to move forward with a new brand that more accurately represents its portfolio of success, vision, and values.

“The shift to Weller Development Partners feels extremely appropriate at this time in the company’s development. It symbolizes the promises we’ve kept to produce the best work for our partners and the communities we serve while consistently nurturing those relationships, learning from each other, and growing together,” said Weller Development Partner Steve Siegel.

“To see the organization adapt to this rebrand is inspiring. Not only has this been an important step forward for Weller Development Partners as a whole, but each person on this team has shown their resilience and ability to grow personally and professionally,” said Matt Rienzo, Vice President of Operations at Weller Development Partners. “When you step into our office, there’s a feeling of positivity and excitement to take on this new title and continue developing and strengthening partnerships for the company’s future and our partners.”

Weller Development Partners will relocate its headquarters from Baltimore to Bethesda, MD as part of its growth and expansion plan, while keeping a construction office in Port Covington through completion of Phase 1B. Current Weller projects include Reston National Golf Course, The Crossvines in Poolesville, MD, and a transformational waterfront development on Grand Bahama Island.

“Taking my experience from JBG and leading Weller Development projects, my team and I feel fully committed to continue to build the future of this company and see it evolve into its full potential,” said Jeff Baker, Managing Director at Weller Development Partners.

Siegel added, “We are excited to continue to make an impact locally and internationally through additional projects that fit our mission as a double bottom line developer: building inclusive communities and spurring economic development while bringing value to our investors and the surrounding residents.  We have an incredibly talented team of professionals with a very unique set of skills, and we are looking forward to continuing to demonstrate the impact of our work in new markets.”
